Day 25: 150.0

Back to 150 again.

Still no difference in energy level. I hope the iron will begin to make a difference soon, but I don't know if those who have been anemic begin to feel a difference in their energy level when iron supplementation starts to correct anemia.

I got the list of "approved doctors" from Kharrazian's website (you have to request this, stating a nearby city). Unfortunately, the approved list contains only one doctor in the state of Florida (why on earth would I go to a doctor in California?) Makes me think this list is still in its early stages, and I have some reservations about that.

Unfortunately, the doctor in Florida is also an hour from me. I don't think I can do that, considering that I will have to take time off work for visits. Too far.

  1. FYI, anemia: I have a friend with anemia who hasn't gotten any better from the supplements. They are doing endoscopy/colonoscopy tomorrow to check for internal bleeding. So you have to do a blood test after you have been taking iron for a while to make sure it's overcome the anemia. If not, the anemia might have another cause.

  2. Also, check out askapatient.com for people talking about thyroid meds. You tend to see more of the people who are unhappy there than are happy for obvious reasons, but it's useful to see what other patients have to say.

  3. Your energy will come back when your thyroid improves. Have you gone gluten free yet?

My diet is restrictive, but I feel healthier, am getting weight loss and have cut out my thyroid meds with almost no increase in symptoms. I don't expect to have to stay on such a restrictive diet forever, just while I'm losing the weight. Then I can add lots back in while checking that the weight stays stable.

  4. Zulie, thanks for the info... I have checked out several thyroid forums, but I'm curious why you mention askapatient.com -- is there a particular trend you noticed?

Harriet, That is an impressive result to have cut out thyroid meds and still be losing weight. VERY GOOD!

It sounds like you perceive "gluten free" as the trigger that started your weight loss. I admit I haven't completely gone gluten free yet. I'm still investigating alternative products (gluten-free bread? cereal?). I found some rice crackers and seed/rice crackers that are gluten-free in my regular grocery, but I'm sure other products are available online.

I have cut back on gluten. Is it an all or nothing thing?

  5. Nothing really. Askapatient is a site I've consulted before when I was hunting for some medicine that would help me with my (non-thyroid) medical concerns.
